This year, Team Legacy of the New Way Esports Team won another trophy for our school at the state finals last week. Team Legacy consists of three advanced players: Isaac Schwartz, Liam Kelly, and Skye Buckey. First, Team Legacy swiftly defeated ASU’s Prep The Eviction Notice 3-1. Then they defeated South Ridge High School’s Redeem Team (previously The Mighty Mavs) 3-1 in the semifinals, but sadly, they lost in the finals to Eduprize’s Ascension 1-3.
We are all quite proud of our players, and we would like to see what other players would bring to the table. We also had the chance to interview some of the players who played this year. Furthermore, we asked many questions about the season, and they gave their best input on it. Gio liked the coaches and playing on Team Three, and he is excited to rise higher in the ranks, with his eyes on Team One.
Skye started last year in Team Three and has seen a major improvement since then. This year, she was on the first team and had a great experience. The same was true for Liam; he had some run-ins with King K. Rool a few times. Since then, he has sharpened his skills and become a formidable opponent.

We haven’t done this well just this year, either. Two years ago, we were defeated by the ACP Lions. The year after that, we faced the Mighty Mavs, and we brought home the first-place trophy. Since then, the Mighty Mavs have renamed themselves the Redeem Team, only to be beaten in the semifinals.
We wouldn’t have so many wins under our belt without our talented players, and next year we will have many new and old players alike, some who will learn from their mistakes and become great players for their teams. We can’t wait to see them grow. Until then, esports players practice, watch videos, and, as Liam says, “Join the Discord!”
