Volleyball at New Way has been on quite a ride for the team this year. For the first 5 games of the year, a 2-3 record is not bad considering it’s an improvement from last year, in which we won 2 games total. So in my eyes, that’s an improvement, and it has shown in my opinion based on what we have played.
I think we have improved a lot from last year. I would like to say that as a team, we have had our chemistry grow from last year, which we didn’t have that much of last year, compared to what we have this year in volleyball. Moreover, I feel like overall the volleyball team this year has shown this year that they are more resilient than last year. I think that shows the most in practice, as we are making all of our serves. We are also hitting the dot on a lot of our spikes, leading to many efficient plays, and our communication this year has been wonderful for our volleyball team. It’s clear as day that the volleyball team this year is filled with grit.
Moreover, I am a member of this year’s volleyball team; unfortunately, though I am injured, so I can’t play, but that has not taken away from what this team has achieved this year. With 5 more games left, I believe there is a lot more this team has in the tank. Hopefully, we can end our losing streak, which sits at 3 games.
If we win we will have a 3-3 record which will help a lot with our team and that could also help us making the playoffs which I believe the volleyball team has a shot at making with their current schedule, which I think we can finish with a 6-4 to a 7-3 record now lets get other players opinions on what the season has done for us so far. And I believe with the right motivation and the right run overall, we can make one massive playoff push. With 4 out of our last 5 games being home games, there is a good advantage there so I like our odds for this last few games especially because we have home court advantage for quite some of our games, and I also think that with the right grit annything game is winnable nomatter if the team we face is 10-0 or 0-10. We got this!
We had the opportunity to chat with freshman player Tate Singer about how the season is going. Tate said, “I decided to do volleyball because I’ve been practicing for a while, and I felt like I was good enough to hopefully make the volleyball team, which I did, and I wanted to do something that sounded like it would be fun. He went on to mention that his “favorite part of being on the volleyball team is getting to play volleyball, as it is a sport that I love to play, and I have friends on the team, which makes it enjoyable to play. Finally, Tate mentions areas that he has improved in. He reflected, “The skill I have most improved on this year, in my opinion, has to be my serving. It’s become pretty good, but my hitting definitely could improve in that, as I feel like I’m not great at curly hitting the ball over the net, and occasionally it frustrates me.” This is a common theme among all players, and it is no wonder the Bulldogs are clicking on all cylinders this season.
