This article highlights Ms. Calvert, who has spent 20 years teaching at New Way and has loved every single one of them.
Ms. Calvert has taught Reading and Math this year. In the past, she has taught History, Science, English, and nearly every subject at school except Specials. This year, Ms. Calvert completed a college course on the Science of Reading, and it was wonderful and helped her become a better teacher. Ms. Calvert now has a permanent plaque hung up in the front office as a way to honor her 20 years here.
Ms. Calvert starts her day with a cup of coffee and morning meditation. The most challenging part of her routine is waking up early since she is not a morning person. Her favorite subject to teach her students is Phonics because it really helps her students make meaningful progress, and she loves to see her students succeed. The best part of her day is seeing her students and working with them. After school, Ms. Calvert usually has dinner with her husband and family.
The best advice Ms. Calvert has given as a teacher is not to worry about the quantity of your friends, but the quality. In other words, what matters most isn’t how many friends you have, but how good the friends you do have are.
Ms. Calvert is a dedicated teacher, with all the years she has taught here at New Way, everything that she has taught, and the number of students she teaches every year. I hope you will all thank Ms. Calvert for all the hard work she does to help others.
