The American health care system, you either hate it or hate it, because the reality of our health care system is that no one can afford it. I’m not exaggerating, with the average hospital bill being thousands of dollars for very small things. For example, a Band-Aid costs 500 bucks at a hospital, which, in my opinion, is absolutely ridiculous. On the other hand, we have health insurance, which most people would think would cover most of their hospital bills.
Well, you’re wrong; health insurance only works when you’re healthy. However, when you’re in the hospital, they deny your claim. Even if they accept your claim, they usually only pay around 25 to 50 percent of the hospital bill, meaning you still owe thousands. Another thing I would like to point out is that America has the most expensive healthcare system on the planet, but has only the 36th longest lifespan among all countries. That can be attributed to the many horrible food ingredients that are completely legal in the United States, but illegal in most other countries. Another thing about the American healthcare system that, in my opinion, needs a complete rewrite of the ambulance process.
Why does it cost a kidney to ride in an ambulance? No disrespect to ambulances, though. Personally, I think that the United States needs a complete overhaul of the current healthcare system because people should be able to afford basic healthcare and not have to sell everything. I think that’s ridiculous. I assume a lot of people agree that the health care system of this country is garbage. Well, I have thought of an amazing plan to completely fix the health care system of the United States, and here is my plan put into action.

First, the United States passed an act called the Healthcare Reform Act. This act cuts down the average hospital bill by 20 percent, therefore already making it better for the average person. On top of that, go after insurance companies for denying claims. Make a law making it harder for insurance companies to deny or limit the amount of claims health insurance companies can deny and force them to pay out more. This would greatly benefit the average American and would make health care way more affordable. The third thing that the United States can do to make healthcare generally more affordable is to increase the power of the Affordable Healthcare Act. This leads to better overall healthcare and generally less debt for the average American.
Let’s answer another question: why does our healthcare system look like this? Well, the current answer is it’s meant to drive maximum profit from the average person and not help them. No wonder doctors make a lot of money; we are the ones paying for the salaries of most of the doctors in the United States. If the healthcare system keeps going this way, absolutely no one is going to go to the hospital because they can’t afford it. We are already seeing this a little, so come on, America, please fix this one thing; it’s not that hard.
Now that I’ve talked about the bad aspects of the American healthcare system, I would like to talk about what I actually like about our current healthcare system. First, I tend to like that America’s healthcare system, despite being very overpriced and very complicated with hospital bills, is at least efficient for the people who can afford it, meaning that America can heal, it just decides not to. Another thing that I like about our current healthcare system is the amount of effort that most doctors put into their job—like they actually care about saving people’s lives. So that’s a rare positive moment for our healthcare system. The third thing I like about the current American healthcare system is the relative number of hospitals available in the United States, which is pretty big, meaning that a hospital is close to most people, which is a pretty good thing. In fact, I live only 8 minutes away from a hospital by car. To be honest, as much as I hate our healthcare system, I do believe that it’s needed to make America run functionally. Even if the price of a bandage is like 500 bucks, I still think that is crazy overpriced and ridiculous.
Personally, I believe that the healthcare system is overpriced and kind of garbage at times, but also needed, and the most important part of a functional country. And that, without it, America as a society would be a lot worse. But one final thought crossed my mind: if fixing our healthcare system is doable, then why haven’t we done it yet? Personally, this question has one answer: politicians and the amount of money they get paid to let our health care system rot. I’m not accusing any politician, but let’s be honest, most politicians in America take bribes, if not all of them, so it makes a lot of sense that a politician would be paid to veto laws that make healthcare more affordable. It’s sad to see.
