People make New Year’s resolutions because they want to change themselves or do something less often that is bad for them. Like being less selfish, losing weight, and being more active. We make these resolutions because we want to improve our lives, such as becoming more fit, and other aspects of our lives.
New Year’s resolutions have been a tradition for many decades, but the question is, why do we feel like we need to make these goals at the beginning of the new year? In my opinion, we set these goals at the beginning of the year so that we can improve and do more often.
I also had the chance to interview four people, most of whom were adults, and I asked them four simple questions. One of the questions was, “Do you think that New Year’s resolutions help you as a student?” and all said yes, except for one student who said no. They all say that New Year’s resolutions are mainly about something personal. They also say that it depends on the person to complete the resolution. New Way teacher, Mr. Clark, stated that most of his resolutions are connected to self-improvement, while High School seminar teacher, Ms. Sipple, said that when making resolutions, they are usually connected to recreation and being outside.
However, not everyone feels that New Year’s Resolutions are useful. In fact, more students say they don’t make New Year’s resolutions than those who do, according to a poll I conducted. In my opinion, more adults make New Year’s resolutions than students do. What I did not realize is that there are cons when making New Year’s resolutions. Mr. Clark said that if you don’t achieve your goals, it could result in thinking poorly of yourself. High School student, Gio, said it depends too heavily on the person. Ms. Sipple said if a person does not do their resolution, it could be like a failure. And School Counselor, Ms. Taylor, said that it could not work if the goal is not achievable.
But after hearing all these answers and understanding this more. You can make a goal, a goal that’s achievable, about anything, like going outside more, planting more flowers, or donating to hospitals. Making goals can help you start something new. And once you know what you want to accomplish, you are able to work to get that goal.
