Every year at New Way, we want to put on something special for our basketball team and for the whole school to make it more fun and enchanting. It is similar to homecoming, but instead of a basic dance, it focuses more on basketball in the lead-up to the big game at the end of January. We have a spirit week at the end of every January. This year, our spirit week is more entertaining and creative than ever.

Some of you may wonder why we do this every year. Well, it gives everyone at New Way the opportunity to give credit to the teachers, staff, and students’ efforts for what they have done over the years, and to create memories and moments before the students graduate. Teachers and staff encourage us to be prepared for adulthood. We may think that those types of people love their job because it helps kids and teens become more responsible and thoughtful about the things they have to do in the future. It can give them gratitude for their years of teaching, too.

Monday, January 26th, will be Pajama Day, which seems very cozy. Tuesday will be Team Tuesday, which is where people wear a sports jersey to support their team, Wednesday is Preppy Vs. Punk. Oooooooooh, that one might be a fan favorite to some of us, especially for a few students around here, who are really digging into it. Which side will you take? The choice is always yours. Thursday is Dress to Impress. Come up with your own whisicmal outfit idea, dresses, top hats, suits, dress to the nines, and last but not least, Friday is white out, which will support our team on the 30th and the cheer squad too.
The game will be taking place at the spirit assembly, so come and join us, where we will celebrate and honor all of our winter sports athletes at 8:30 PM. There will also be a hoopcoming taligate party at 3:15 PM on the 30th, it will all be basketball-themed games, obviously, and a gaming station. The food there will be pizza that is $2 a slice and free popcorn. The senior night celebration will be happening that day, too. So head over to the gym, where we will honor and celebrate our four winter sport senior athletes from Esports and basketball, sounds exciting, and last but not least, our big game for the last week of January, the Bulldogs will be facing Sonoran Science Academy Phoenix. Let’s make sure to cheer them on. Remember, cheerleaders, be loud and proud.
