Back in January, New Way started a brand-new event in honor of the Winter Olympics in February: the Bulldog Olympics! These events were designed to help create school spirit for New Way and get kids to enjoy the last of the spirit assemblies of the school year!
Each event of the Bulldog Olympics took place during the last few spirit assemblies of the school year, with different homerooms from each school level: Lower School, Junior High, and High School. 1st place gets 3 points, 2nd place gets 2 points, and 3rd place gets 1 point.
The first event was a hula hoop relay on January 30. Students played by linking their hands into a chain, and put a hula hoop in between their hands and arms. The homerooms playing were Mrs. Maas’s for Lower School, Coach Lugo’s for Junior High, and Mr. Boone’s for High School. 1st place was Mrs. Maas’s homeroom, winning 3 points for Lower School, 2nd place was Coach Lugo’s homeroom, winning 2 points for Junior High, and 3rd place was Mr. Boone’s homeroom, winning 1 point for High School.
The 2nd event was a beach ball relay on March 13. Students played by sitting in a line with one beach ball. They passed it overhead, and the last person in line ran up to become the 1st. Once one of the beach balls is back at the start, that team wins! The homerooms playing were Ms. Gibson’s for Lower School, Ms. Gill’s for Junior High, and Mr. Morrin’s for High School. Mr. Morrin’s homeroom won the Beach Ball Relay for High School, winning 3 points; Ms. Gibson’s homeroom came in 2nd for Lower School, winning 2 points; and Ms. Gill’s homeroom came in 3rd for Junior High, winning 1 point.
The 3rd and final event was an ice cream cone relay on April 10. The homerooms playing were Ms. Costa’s for Lower School, Ms. Silva’s for Junior High, and Ms. Farrand’s for High School. Students played by lining up, with the first person in line having an “Ice Cream Cone”, which is a cone with a ball balanced on top. Students played by running down the end of the court and back, and handing it off. The team that finishes 1st is the overall winner! Ms. Farrand’s homeroom came in 1st and won 3 points, Ms. Costa’s homeroom came in second and won 2 points, and Ms. Silva’s homeroom came in third and won 1 point! The overall winner of the Bulldog Olympics was High School, with a total of 7 points!
The Bulldog Olympics was such a cool and fantastic event, and I hope we do more events like this in the future! So stay tuned, bulldogs.
