I decided to interview one of the new teachers at New Way, Mr. Morrin, who also teaches community college classes. I asked him questions about college for seniors, and he had some wonderful answers for me to share with this school and the entire New Way community.
For my first question for Mr. Morrin, I asked what the benefits of going to college are compared to entering the workforce immediately. His answer to that question was that one benefit would be that you make more money over time if you were to pursue an education first before you enter. The other reason is to enjoy your life culturally and learn many things in college that would enhance your life; for example, art and literature.
For my second question, I asked Mr. Morrin What would you give as advice for seniors looking to get into college?. His answer for that question was to do well in class, do as many extracurricular activities as you can, and be ready to tell your story in a way that’s unique, interesting, and different from the others, and make sure you are confident in what you want to do. That’s the most important part.
For my third question, I asked Mr. Morrin what college degrees he would recommend people pursue. He responded by saying that it depends on what you hope to do. For example, if you like math, then a course in engineering would fit you best; it just depends on what you would like to do during college. Another example would be if you wanted to help animals, being a vet would be the best fit, so it just depends on what you want to do for college and what your passion is.
For my fourth question, I asked Mr. Morrin what advice he would give as a college professor to prepare for college classes. He responded by saying that New Way High School students take as much of their credit as they can; your teachers will no longer remind you of all the details, and you are going to have to remember all of that on your own. Furthermore, many professors have their own things to do, and the teaching part is not the main part of the job. They will assume that you will take care of your grade and be prepared to be on your own.
For my fifth and final question of the interview, I asked Mr. Morrin how much he recommends taking the SAT. He said that most or all high school students should take the SAT as it does nothing but make you look better. Even if you don’t do so well, it gives you an idea of what your strengths and weaknesses are and a verdict of what you can do and what you can’t do. It also shows what you can work on, and it’s what you can use to improve overall.
In conclusion, Mr. Morrin gave some good advice, and seniors should take this advice and use it to grow and improve during their time in college, which is a lot different and harder than high school, and use this advice to get past college. And this advice can potentially be used for everyday use. Remember, college and high school aren’t a sprint; they’re a marathon.
