At every school, there is always a voice in the mornings that tells you what’s happening today. And we have a voice, and his name is Simon. He puts on a very news-like voice and is always happy to do it. But you may ask, how does he do it, and why did he do it? Well, I got a chance to interview him and got his answers.
The first question I asked was, “How do you do the announcements?” he said, and I quote, “Almost every room has a speaker for the PA system, and there are a few phones on which you can input a special code that allows you to speak directly into the phone to the school.”
The next question I asked him was, “Is some of the stuff you say scripted?” and he replied, “Yes, for the most part, but essentially, they give me something, and I say it in my own voice.”
The third question was, “Where do you get some of the information from?” Simon said, “Mr. Crane gets the national days, school events, and the fun stuff, while I get the sports scores and just as many major school details.”
The fourth question to Simon was, “Where do you do the announcements?” he told me,” Mr. Crane’s office and, failing that, Mr. Clark’s.”
The final question I asked him was, “What made you say you want to do this?” and what he said was, “Because I love public speaking and I admire people who do news shows, so then I asked the administration if I could do the announcements, and they said yes, and I did 1, then 2, then all of the days of the week, and that’s a message for all those people out their who want to do something. If you take the initiative and are good at what you do, you can get it done.”
Simon also runs the HS Chess Club, is the Captain and Student Coach of the competitive chess team, and is the main person behind the Journalism in high school, serving as Editor-In-Chief.
He is very responsible in his work, and he is always ready to do what he likes and enjoys. Especially during the announcements. He is very passionate about it and does a good job. And if you see someone carrying a briefcase, that is him.
