On January 30, 2026, during the Crans-Montana World Cup, Lindsey Vonn, an Olympic skier, competed in the Cup and while skiing, she received a terrible fall and leg injury. She had to be airlifted to a clinic, and then she got transferred to a hospital. She had to go through orthopaedic surgery in her leg to stabilize a fracture she received. It was pretty scary and hard for Lindsey to go through, but she braved through it and had the confidence to be in the Olympics coming up.
When Lindsey crashed, she received an anterior ligament rupture in her leg. It was devastating and scary for her to find out and to have, but she was able to stay calm about it and have multiple surgeries for the incident, even though it was hard for her to get over the pain in her body and in her mind. With all her muscles in her body and mind, she was brave enough to back up and get back in the games.
She was calm and brave, but Lindsey Vonn’s Olympic dream didn’t end the way she hoped that it would turn out. To her, it was just life. She tried hard, and she still worked to get her way through her injury and was able to make her way back to the Olympics, even with a leg injury. With her bravery and strength, she felt ready to get back in the game.
She made her way back to the Olympics for the downhill and said the injury on the eve of the games had no bearing on her accident but was instead part of the low parts for error of ski racing, because for downhill ski racing, what’s different between a strategic line and a catastrophic injury can be only as small as 5 inches.
At the end of the ski event, Lindsey had broken her leg again on February 8 during the Female Winter Olympic Ski Event. It was a lot for her to go through, but at last, she felt strong and well enough to play in the Winter Olympics, and she did. She was very brave, with her leg injury and being in the Olympics. I hope she is just as brave in the future, and I hope we see her ski more in the future.
