Donald Trump was elected president a couple of days ago. Since then, he has signed many, many executive orders, some wackier than others but all of them significant to this country’s future. This article is for people who don’t have time to research everything he’s up to. This article is a summarized list of everything Trump has done that is either important to the future of the nation or deeply amusing, which much of it is. So, without further ado, here is everything you need to know from great to ridiculous to inspiring to depressing;
- Elon Musk was appointed secretary of the “Department of Government Efficiency”. This was a preexisting agency he renamed. He chose this name by virtue of the acronym being “DOGE” This is not a joke.
- He has pulled out of the WHO. (World Health Organization) The WHO, being a part of the United Nations, was created to facilitate cooperation between countries to fight world health issues.
- He also pulled out of the Paris Climate Agreement. The PCA is a major climate treaty signed by 196 parties to work towards fighting climate change.
- He promised to invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to eliminate “foreign gangs and criminal networks.” The act is widely perceived as archaic by legal scholars, although it may have some application in regard to Cartel violence.
- He has pushed back the TikTok ban 75 days.
- Mr. Trump reaffirmed his pledge to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. The Mexican government, as far as we at the Courier can tell, finds this insane.
- He has also said that he will rename Denali, the country’s tallest mountain, back to Mt. McKinley. Mt. McKinley was the mountain’s former name before Obama changed it to Denali. It was changed to Denali, as Denali is the Alaska indigenous people’s name for the mountain. This journalist finds this renaming far more likely than the one in the Gulf of America.
- Trump also said that there are “only two genders: male and female.” What this means for Trans and Non-Binary Americans is unclear, although it doesn’t seem to be good.
- Trump plans to instate 25% tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods as of February 1st.
- He has continually promised mass deportations but has yet to detail how he will go about conducting them.
- While visiting a North Carolina disaster zone, Mr. Trump made the suggestion to get rid of FEMA. (Federal Emergency Management Agency)
- One of Trump’s biggest moves has been a play to end birthright citizenship, a right ordained in the Constitution. This effort seems to have failed, although it is still possible.
- Trump has declared a national emergency at the Southern border, giving him access to new resources to fight immigration and build his wall.
- He has pardoned almost everyone involved with January 6th.
- Mr. Trump has broadly directed executive agencies to tailor their policies to lower American consumer goods prices.
- Dr. Fauci of Coronavirus fame has been stripped of his government-paid security detail, now hiring one of his own.
- Mr. Trump threatens China with tariffs as high as 60% as a part of the trade war.
That’s all for now, by the time you read this, there may have been some changes, but these are all still fundamental changes by the new administration. This new Trump administration will lead to countless changes in the laws of our country, some small, some huge as seen above. Thank you for reading and remember through it all the Campus Courier will be here to keep you informed.
