A video was just released of Qatar’s Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani announcing a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas that will go into effect this Sunday, January 19th.
Here are the details:
Phase 1:
42-day plan
Israeli troops move from east and settle on the Gaza border
33 Israeli hostages including women, children, and the elderly will be swapped for Palestinian prisoners
Wounded, and sick, remains of people and necessities will be transported
Humanitarian aid will flow into Gaza strip
Rehabilitation of hospitals in Gaza
“Phase 2 and 3 will be finalized after the implementation of Phase 1.”-State of Qatar (mediator)
The cease-fire is planned to last 42 days as Israeli troops fall back from the east, and position on the Gaza border to allow for a swap of prisoners, hostages, remains, and the wounded. The flow of humanitarian aid will grow into the Gaza Strip as well as rehabilitation of hospitals, health centers, and stores.

Hamas has committed to the ceasefire whereas the cabinet in Israel has not agreed to the deal. Prime Minister Netanyahu announced the reason is that Hamas had “reneged on parts of the agreement” and that the Israeli cabinet “will not convene until the mediators notify Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement.”
The pressure is on Netanyahu as he has scrambled to find a suitable agreement for months, and although this deal makes sense; Israel needs critical time to think about the lasting impact of this decision. The Israeli people look forward to seeing hostages freed, but several Israeli government officials have threatened to resign in disapproval of government decisions.
Netanyahu is being pulled in more than one direction, and no matter what decision is made, he will face backlash.
We wait for the Israeli cabinet to make a decision and according to an Israeli official, a majority vote will be held in Israel regarding this ceasefire.
