Two hundred thousand people were ordered to leave everything behind as fires swept across Los Angeles consuming everything in its path.
Cars pile up on the road as people flee by foot as the fires tear through tens of thousands of acres of land. 1400 firefighters were deployed into action but after non-stop firefighting, the water ran out… Firefighters are navigating solutions as they snag water from pools and ponds to suppress further fire development. Teams from surrounding states are currently being dispatched to California to join the fight.
These fires are so dangerous because of a seasonal occurrence called the “Santa Ana Winds”- dry, powerful, warm winds from the northwest swoop down at up to 100mph into the lower east thrusting fires into the exposed territory. Even here in Phoenix, we seemed to have felt a burst of those sporadic winds.
So what about the people?
Amidst all the panic of families losing nearly everything they own; 10 people have died. There has not been much report on the status of the thousands of evacuees, we assume they are filling up hotels in safer areas of California. The question I have is how are all of these people going to regain stability in their lives.
These fires may have destroyed homes, businesses, schools, and everything in between; but we can not let these fires destroy the morale of the people. We the people need to provide in any way we can for each other in struggle. Not just monetarily, but in spirit, and Action.
