Jimmy Kimmel is a celebrity comedian with his own show called “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and something happened recently.
He had recently said some things that were in bad taste after Charlie Kirk’s death.
He said that the MAGA gang was saying Charlie Kirk’s killer was not one of them, and they were trying to score political points from that. Then he goes on to make fun of Trump’s reaction in an interview at the White House, saying this is not how a grown man reacts, this is how a 4-year-old reacts to a goldfish dying. A lot of people from the US were upset at what he said.
The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has put pressure on ABC and Disney to fire him or suspend him from his show, despite being a talk show host. At first, they had cancelled the show, but was that the right decision? Did what he said break any laws? Let me remind you that the First Amendment is all about freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and the right to petition. These are the five rules of the First Amendment guaranteed to make sure we have freedoms in our country.
After six days, Jimmy Kimmel had come back to the show. Upon his return, Jimmy said, “This show is not what’s important.” “What’s important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this.”
It does not matter if you agree or disagree with Kimmel’s statements; our First Amendment rights say we have the freedom of speech. It is important that we follow the Constitution. Furthermore, it allows us the freedom to be who we are.
