Every year, the transition from school to summer within the first few days feels jarring. Being taken out of the regular school schedule and into the home world is certainly a change. It will not be a bad change by any means after all finals are done, but this time, it will be different. The summer following graduation may feel different as I’m going to feel more accomplished, hence making my time off more special. However, in our senior year, we grow more attached to the senior class in unexpected ways.

New Way does a lot to celebrate the graduates, such as going to Disneyland, a formal dinner where seniors are honored, getting to paint a mural of something special to you, and so much more. The traditions and celebrations for seniors really warm my heart and made my final year of New Way a great time. In addition, growing close with friends, having lunch together, making each other laugh, and suffering through homework together has been an immense joy. Now, the thought of seeing much less of them in the future is an unsettling thought. Although it is a change that is fast approaching, and for those reasons, it’s going to be a little hard to say goodbye
However, during the summer, I’m sure we’ll find time to meet up with each other and keep each other updated. Additionally, no longer worrying about assignments and projects feels fantastic. During additional time at home, I can explore my passions, continue my hobbies, work out more often, and sleep in, of course. Furthermore, our family loves going on vacations every summer during my sister’s birthday. We have gone to various places from San Diego to Alaska, and now we plan to go to the states in New England!

The plan for the New England trip starts with us in landing in Vermont, then renting a car to explore what the state has to offer, with Ben Jerry’s factory and the Vontrapp family lodge, also known as the family that inspired the Sound of Music film. From there, we’re headed to New Hampshire with the intent to visit my cousins and relax at our rental home. Next, we’ll be visiting the state capital, Portland, in Maine. The last and most exciting stop will be Boston, a town of rich history and advanced education. Personally, I’m most excited to see the ongoing celebrations during the Fourth of July.
While the vacations are always a blast, in the meantime, when I’m not hanging out with friends, the days can get slow and a little boring. Granted, I have my hobbies to keep me occupied, but when I get tired of doing them, the day can be boring when I have run out of things to do. In addition, being isolated indoors can get a bit stale. But, in that time, I found new things to do, such as listening to podcasts and drawing. Last summer I got interested in playing guitar, and now it’s become a huge passion of mine.
Even though it’s going to be an adjustment staying home with nothing to do, it will be nice after having a massive amount of work this year. In addition, when summer is not boring, exploring my passions and bonding with my family will be great. Especially getting to learn more about the New England area of the United States. In conclusion, though summer can be boring and isolating during that time, you can connect more with family, and you can discover more of your own personal passions.
