Glayes and Nelson deported to colombia Credit to
Two Immigrants named Glayes and Nelson Gonzalez have called the United States home for nearly 4 decades. In that time, they have raised 3 daughters, all in the state of California. They came to the United States to escape crime and poverty in 1989. On February 21st, Glayes and Nelson were at an immigration court in California. They’ve been going to immigration court since 2001, but this time would end up a lot different than usual. The couple was handcuffed by ICE officials and where put into federal custody for 3 weeks before being deported back to Colombia. The couple expected that they needed to leave the United States and were preparing to do so, but not in the way they thought.
Glayes and Nelson had had no trouble with the law, and they always paid their taxes, but they were also never given a chance to say goodbye to their children and grandchildren. But it wasn’t like they didn’t try to become us citizens since 2000, the couple has spent thousands of dollars on immigration lawyers trying to get us citizenship, but they have exhausted all of their opportunities to stay in the United States.
Their daughter said about them. “My parents loved this country, they sacrificed all there money to try and gain citizenship but they were failed by the system, they were also thrown into detention centers separate from each other, according to their daughters in 3 states, California, Arizona, Louisiana. their daughters are holding out for hope but with a law from 1996 that says any immigrant who has lived in the united states for more than 1 year is does not voluntary leave is subject to a 10 year ban from entering the united states.
