On February 28th, Donald Trump held a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine. Ukraine has been at war with Russia and its President Vladimir Putin for 3 years and has been constantly supported by the Biden Administration. However, President Trump has a different perspective. Trump claims Ukraine should sue for peace and try to solve the war diplomatically with the United States. However, Zelenskyy argues the war has been going on since 2014 with Putin breaking the rules of every cease-fire that was in place. Vice President JD Vance chimes in, claiming that Zelenskyy should thank the president for trying to prevent the destruction of your country and solve your problem.
Although Zelenki points out that the people of Ukraine always had a problem during the war or not and before he can finish his sentence, Trump cuts him off, telling him he is not in a good position. He compares the situation to a game of cards, exclaiming he doesn’t have the cards without the US, Ukraine gambling with World War Three and the lives Ukraine will lose if the war continues. But Zelenskyy believes Ukraine is staying strong and refusing a cease-fire.

In the aftermath of this meeting, JD Vance went to visit family in Vermont, when some demonstrators protested Trump not standing by Ukraine. Meanwhile, other allies grew concerned over Trump’s calling Zelenskyy a dictator. Trump later remarked “Did I say that? I can’t believe I said that”. President Zelensky later posted on X “It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive”.
